Guinness Food Records

Our preoccupation and love affair with food dates back centuries.
It makes sense that food is a big part of our lives, each of us consume nearly a ton of food a year. Cooking is a way that many people connect with their family, and much tradition is passed down through recipes and time in the kitchen. But what about when food goes wacky? Guinness World Records holds some of the most amazing and mind-bending records pertaining to food!

Everybody loves pizza! And one of the best parts of the pizza experience is going to your favorite pizzeria and watching them make the delectable Italian treat, from start to finish. One of the most important parts of making the pizza is spinning the dough. This creates a nice, even base for the sauce and your favorite ingredients. The world record held for the largest pizza base spun is 33.2 inches wide! This was done by Tony Gemignani at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Holy pizza! So a huge pizza for dinner, but what’s for breakfast? How about a 5 pound 12 ounce ostrich egg? That’s half the size of an average human head! It was probably enough to feed the entire town of Borlange, Sweden, where the egg was laid. In Ukraine, a wine maker set out to create the largest champagne flute. And he did, with a chalice holding 6.9 gallons of champagne!

Size is not the only measure of greatness for Guinness World Records. The New York City eatery Serendipity 3 unveiled their 3 Foot Long Haute Dog on National Hot Dog Day, weighing in at a whopping $69! Grilled in white truffle oil, nestled in a salted pretzel bun, and topped with medallions of duck foie gras, this is no ordinary dog! And a final world record to shy away any vegetarians... the world’s longest slice of meat was executed at Hattori Nutrition College and resulted in a slice of ham 13.35 meters long!

Your kitchen doesn’t have to measure up to the standards of these world record holders, and, unless you’re feeding an Olympic water polo team, it shouldn’t! Guinness is aware of the dangers of food waste, and require all “large food” type items to be fully edible, and distributed to the public for consumption, as to avoid food wastage. Whether you’re making one huge pizza for your family, toasting congratulations with some bubbly, enjoying gourmet hot dogs, or curing your own meat, bring Chef Merito along for your culinary adventure. Adding these easy and flavorful spices bring out the best in your tomato sauces, meat marinades, and even breakfast scrambled eggs!
